dementia
diaries.
In 2016 my mother was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. She was just 68 and had retired 10 months prior to her diagnosis. At the time I was a TV meteorologist and reporter in Las Vegas. Long distance care giving from 1,200 miles away rocked me to my core. After more than 6 months juggling endless hysterical phone calls between breaking news live shots--I left the job I loved to move closer to the person I loved even more.
Since then, we've shared our agonizing story of a mother and daughter's journey--from the diagnosis to the debilitating and deteriorating loss in memory, function and cognitive ability.
It's a harrowing journey--not just for the 50 million people worldwide struggling with dementia, but for the millions of caretakers and family members who are trying to raise awareness, reduce the stigmatization and break down the barriers to finding a cure.
This is our story.
